The Brief

A decision was taken by the Board of Directors to replace the existing Managing Director as the trust between to the Board and the individual had broken down and the relationship had become untenable. A strictly confidential search was required to find a replacement.

The company was an established MEP sub-contractor with the majority of their projects in-house for the main construction company within the Group. Reporting to the Group CEO, the new Managing Director will have full P&L responsibility for the region with an emphasis on initially addressing the internal issues, implementation of best practice procedures & policies and recruiting a new qualified senior management team with a view of tendering for new contracts with external clients and profitably increasing turnover.

The Process

Due to the sensitive nature of the position and limited size of the regional MEP sub-contractor market, a highly confidential search was required to identify potential candidates for the position without the company or parent group being identified until the initial first interviews.

Through our connections and knowledge of the regional MEP sub-contractor market built up over 12 years’ in the region, a short-list of three candidates were identified, one in-country and the other two working in the UK and Qatar. All three candidates had extensive experience of working in the UAE along with the right level of experience as required by the client to regain control of the company and implement the required changes.

The Result

After a protracted period due to the re-structuring of the Group’s C-Suite, the preferred candidate nominated by BCI was interviewed by the new Group CEO and the position was offered and accepted by the candidate.

The offered candidate was aggressively counter-offered on several occasions whilst working through his 3 month notice period, BCI Executive Search helped manage these counter-offers and ensured the candidate started with the company. To date, the new Regional Managing Director has ‘over hauled’ the company, resolved many legacy issues effecting cash flow and the company is now tendering and winning work with external clients as outlined in our initial brief.
